Children's Eye Exams in Stuart Florida
Dr. Durante offers complete eye exams for children here at Cohen's Fashion Optical. Learn why and when to bring your child in for an eye exam.
The Benefits of Pediatric Eye Exams
Adults know when they are not seeing clearly, and can decide to seek optometry care to correct vision problems. Children, however, have no way of knowing if they see the world as they should or if they have a vision problem. Your child may have a vision problem and mistakenly believe they see properly. Statistics show than one in four school-aged children have vision problems, so this is a real issue that could affect your kids.
Unless your child has such difficulty seeing that he or she bumps into things while walking, or an eye condition is diagnosed by your pediatrician, a child's eye problem may go undetected. This can lead your child to start school and fall behind peers from an inability to read and see the board clearly.
Fortunately, we at Durante's Optical can perform eye exams for kids. In our eye exams, we will check your child's eye health and vision health. We can detect pediatric eye problems such as lazy eye, amblyopia, nearsightedness, or farsightedness. Then we can provide your child with eyewear and vision service that correct pediatric eye problems.

Now that you know the benefits of children’s eye exams, how often should you schedule them? The American Optometric Association recommends that children receive an initial eye exam when they are 6 months old. If everything looks fine then, children should have a follow-up exam at the 3 year mark and another around age 5 to 6, when they are preparing to be first graders.
All of the staff at Durante's Optical has experience working with children. We strive to make the eye exam process go quickly for kids. We do recommend that you schedule the exam for a time of day when your child is usually alert and in a good mood. This will make the exam go quickly while ensuring that we are able to perform all components of the exam.
We will also need some information from you, specifically information about your child's health history and behavior. When you prepare for your child's eye exam, think about any unusual behavior you have noticed. By providing us as much information as possible, you can help us take care of your child's vision health.
If you need an eye exam for your children, or even for yourself, we recommend you make an appointment in advance. Call us today at (772) 692-2020 to reserve your adult or pediatric eye exam appointment and make sure to ask about our new client special.
